Hi everyone and welcome to Be Ur Beautiful! I’m Sophia Gallimore, the content creator for this website! I am so excited to share with you my story and introduce you to ideas that I believe have the power to stimulate a true body accepting society. As social media becomes increasingly popular among generations, so has the encouragement for body positivity in light of diminishing societies imposed high standards of beauty that are constantly changing. Society has conditioned men and women to constantly adapt to the current ideal of what their body “should” look like. Fad diets and the increasingly popular diet culture has led such individuals to feel exhausted and annoyed with constantly running on the hamster wheel that ends up never satisfying. Diet culture has led us to believe that we are unhealthy, unworthy of status and undeserving of love if we do not fit the current beauty standard ideal. What if we strive to change this idea and explore the reality that obtaining the “perfect” body is unattainable because the standard of beauty is always changing. Why don’t we learn to accept the body in its natural state, free of all diet related thoughts, obsessions with food, and extreme exercise. With all that being said, what exactly is Be Ur Beautiful? The Be Ur Beautiful content will explore bringing light to eating disorders, total body acceptance, and defining one’s self worth as independent of physical appearance. I decided to call the website Be Ur Beautiful to spark individuals to think of the many facets of their individuality that make them feel their own special type of beautiful aside from physical features. Who cares about what’s on the outside, when you have a profile of internal uniqueness to feel empowered by? My desire for this website is to create an interactive platform for people to feel comfortable and empowered to open up, share stories and break the barriers of societies oppressive beauty standards. I want to use Be Ur Beautiful as a medium for others to open up, embrace and step out on the plank of accepting yourself for what you have to offer other than your physical appearance. One thread can create conversation and conversation can create change. I want to be an activist and influencer in creating this change in America. Join and help me be a part of this change! So, let’s Learn to Celebrate YOU instead of just your body!
